Ride Away Cowboy

I'd love to lay down and hold her
Close to my body and soul
In a field of red top clover
Down by the river road.

But when will I see her?
When comes the day?
Yes I really need her
But I ride away.

I'm on the road to Huston
I ride in rodeo today
My saddle is heavy and useless
Till I get to Huston some way.

I ride for the freedom
I ride cause I can
I just hope that someday
She might understand.

She lives with her Daddy in Memphis
I reckon its better that way
She said she could not love a cowboy
Her tears fell as she walked away
But when will I see her?
When comes the day?
Yes I really need her
But I ride away.

A red sun is rising in Texas
I'm out on the long highway
The fans are awaiting in Huston
Vaqueros and mean bulls they say

I ride for the people
I ride for my pay
Still thinking that someday
I won't ride away

I'd love to lay down and hold her
Close to my body and soul
In a field of red top clover
Down by the river road.

But when will I see her?
Will she ever say
'You are my cowboy
Just don't ride away'?
